Text Box: The Old Orchard Winery
2008 - Syrah
Winemaker Ian Hanson
Our Shiraz was harvested on the 14th April 2008 and open-top fermented following a three-day cold soak to boost colour without increasing tannins.
The must was pressed after a two weeks. After fermentation, the wine was
aged in French and American oak barrels for 15 months.
Only the best barrels were selected. The wine was bottled on August 17, 2009.
Typically dark purple colour, with bright aromas of ripe blackberry, cocoa, and allspice. A bit of swirling brings out fresh black pepper and a hint of charcoal smoke. Jam and dark chocolate in the mouth, lush and round, quite soft, with more black pepper and toasty vanilla oak coming through on the finish.
Cellar for 15 years or longer.
