Wine Tasting
Why is it so important??

Learning how to taste wines is an adventure that will deepen your appreciation for both the wines and the winemakers. Look, Smell and Taste is a great place to start. Once the basics are learnt you can expand to taste wines like the professionals.

Look - Check out the colour and clarity. Take a good look at the colour of the wine. It is best to have a white background. If its red wine - is it maroon, purple, garnet, brick or even brownish?? Likewise with the white wines.

Smell - Swirl the glass to begin with then have a quick smell to gain a first impression. Still smelling, stick your nose down into the glass and take a deep inhale through your nose. Here you will smell your second impressions.

Taste - Now it's time to taste. Start with a small sip and let it roll around your mouth. There are three stages of taste. The Attack Phase, the Evolution Phase and The Finish.

The Attack Phase - is the first impression that the wine makes on your palate.

The Evolution Phase - This is the mid-palate phase. This is the wines actual taste. This is where you will be noticing the flavour profile of the wine.

The Finish - The final phase of how long the flavour impression lasts after swallowing.
